D’Wayne ‘s immeasurable contribution to music will be with us forever.
I remember hearing the excitement in D’Wayne ‘s voice when he told us the story of his time spent in Africa. He returned from Africa on a new music mission that was profoundly dynamic and fresh. The unique sound of Tony! Toni! Toné integrated into the beats from the Motherland, kept the audience at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell on their feet the entire show. D’Wayne truly embodied ancestral love for humanity. He joins the heavenly chorus of legendary musicians that came before him. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
During the short time we spent with D’Wayne, we clearly understood his love for his hometown community of Oakland, CA. D’Wayne dedicated his life being proximate to the critical issues, societal ills and helping impoverished youth and families in Oakland. We spoke about the band battles that were going on in Oakland at the time and of course D’Wayne had memories and stories about Prince.
In the coming days, as love pours in for D’Wayne , his life story must be shared with future generations of musicians, especially his excellence in honing his craft to be the best in the music business. He lived a giant life and will continue to be in our hearts forever. We will continue to pray for his beloved family band mates at this difficult time. Celebrating D’Wayne’s life is the way forward in myst of grief.
